2024 brings exciting new opportunities and challenges, and we can’t wait to meet them head on as we continue aiming to provide exceptional portrait photography for our clientele. Since the development of the digital SLR camera, photographers have wrestled with how they should deliver their final edited and produced end product.
Traditionally when you had family portraits taken the photographer would work hard editing the images and come up with their set of final photos from which the client could choose prints of various sizes or other printed products like canvases, holiday cards, and more. The negatives, the “source” image, remained with the photographer as the edited image as prints represented the complete delivered product.

The Digital World
Fast-forward to more modern times when digital photography has become ubiquitous with quality photography available even on our cell phones. Most photographers, myself included, continued the business model of delivering edited and formatted images as our end product while maintaining intellectual property ownership of the high resolution digital files. Clients continue to purchase prints and photo products from their photographer using the finished source imagery. Within the last 3-5 years, photographers began making high resolution digital files available for sale for clients who wished to purchase their prints elsewhere. Photographers charge a fee for these images as they are losing the business previously gained from selling print products.
Included in Your Session Fee
After spending time selling digital files one file at a time, we have decided that the photography game has changed. The expectations are to receive high-resolution files for printing at clients’ companies of their choosing. While we do offer extremely high quality prints through the lab we use, we now also include high-res digital files in our client galleries so you can send those files to your own labs/services for print products.
Thank you for reading and for being a valued Jeremy Davis Photography client!
